Tomcats earn third seed in PAC Championship Tournament

Thiel defeats Chatham, 74-57

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game over the Chatham Cougars Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium, 74-57.
 
The win, coupled with Westminster's loss to Saint Vincent Saturday, gave the Tomcats the third seed in the 2017 PAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, which will take place Feb. 21-25.
 
Thiel will host the Grove City Wolverines in the quarterfinals of the PAC Championship Tournament Tuesday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
 
Saint Vincent earned the top seed in the PAC Championship Tournament. Thomas More is the second seed. The tournament semifinals will be played Thursday (Feb. 23), and the championship game will be played Saturday (Feb. 25).
 
Five Tomcats made significant contributions in Saturday's win over the Cougars, beginning with Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams), who scored a game-high 16 points. Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored 13 points and corralled eight rebounds while Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a trio of blocks.
 
Also for the Tomcats, Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) and LeAndre Jackson (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) scored 10 points apiece.
 
Josh Randall paced the Cougars with 14 points while Alex Schoppen scored 10 points.
 
Tickets for the PAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal game between the Tomcats and Wolverines can be purchased at the door. The fee is $5 for adults and $2 for students. Thiel students will be admitted for free with valid ID. Championship programs will be on sale for $1 apiece.
