NEWARK, N.J. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) loss on the road Saturday to the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders.
Thiel lost the first set Saturday 25-18 but earned a 25-20 win in the second game. The Tomcats lost the third set 27-25 before falling 25-22 in the fourth game.
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led Thiel with 15 kills while
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Nate Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) each contributed 12 kills.
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) handed out 40 assists and came up with 10 digs. Also for the Tomcats,
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) recorded 15 digs while
Jacob Burkley (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) tallied four blocks and three aces.
The Tomcats (3-4, 1-1 CVC) will return to action Friday when they host the Marymount Saints at Beeghly Gymnasium. The CVC match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
