GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Marymount Saint rallied Friday to earn a 3-2 Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) win over the Thiel Tomcats at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel opened up a 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22. The Saints took the third game (25-17) and eked out a 25-22 win in the fourth set. Marymount went on to edge Thiel in the decisive fifth set, 15-13.
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led Thiel's assault with 17 kills while also contributing three blocks and a pair of aces. Younger brother
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) notched a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) tallied 14 kills.
Also for the Tomcats,
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) distributed 50 assists and
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) came up with 10 digs.
T.J. Wiechecki led the Saints with 17 kills while Eric Wiles recorded 15 kills. Erich Bratke notched 28 assists and 12 digs.
The Tomcats will return to action Saturday when they host the Eastern Mennonite Royals. The CVC match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
