LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team opened Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) play Friday night with a 3-0 sweep over the Cairn Highlanders.
The closest set was the first of the match, which the Tomcats won 25-21. Thiel won the second set 25-17 and pulled off the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third game.
Freshman outside hitter
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led Thiel's attack with 20 kills while his older brother,
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), contributed 11 kills.
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tallied 41 assists and seven digs while
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) contributed eight digs.
The Tomcats (3-3, 1-0 CVC) will return to action Saturday when they face the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders on the road. The CVC match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
