BETHANY, W. Va., - The Thiel College women's volleyball lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against Bethany College by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night.
The Tomcats started the first set strong and had a 10-9 advantage until the Bison went on a 16-2 run to take the 25-12.
Thiel bounced back and battled to take the second set 25-21 to make the match tied at a set a piece heading to the third.
In the third, Bethany controlled the set early going on an eight-point run to take a commanding lead which they would not relinquish as the Bison went on to take the set 25-18.
With the match on the line in the fourth, Thiel went out to an 11-8 advantage before Bethany answered going on a six-point run to take the lead 14-11. The Tomcats were never able to pull closer than two after giving up the lead as the Bison took the deciding set 25-20.
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) continued her strong week offensively as she added 13 kills on the night along with
Olivia Scott (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) who dished out another 39 assists against the Bison. On the week, Friedel has 38 kills and Scott has collected 88 assists.
Defensively,
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) blocked a game-high six attacks and
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) recorded a game-high 22 digs.
With the loss, Thiel falls 8-13, and 2-8 in the PAC.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Thursday Oct. 12 as they face PAC opponent Grove City College at Beeghly Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
