WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College football team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game Saturday on the road to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 34-7.
The Yellow Jackets scored first when JaWuan Jones scored a touchdown on an 84-yard punt return.
The Tomcats came right back on their next possession when
Ronald Brown (Munhall, Pa./University Prep) threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to
Marcus Waddy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) to force a 7-7 tie early in the first quarter.
Waynesburg went on to score three more touchdowns over the remainder of the first half while keeping Thiel off the scoreboard to hold a 27-7 lead at halftime.
Austin Wilson scored on a 6-yard run midway through the first quarter to give his team a 14-7 lead. Jake Dougherty scored on a 1-yard run midway through the second quarter, and Chad Walker scored on a 3-yard run with 18 seconds remaining in the first half.
Wilson scored his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run with 3:22 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Nick Barca (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) paced Thiel's offense with 113 yards on 21 carries. His long run on the day was a 30-yarder.
Walker led the Yellow Jackets with 104 yards on the ground on 16 attempts. Wilson ran for 84 yards and scored two touchdowns on 19 carries. Dougherty also ran 21 times for 82 yards.
Cody Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) led the Tomcats with 15 tackles, three of which were behind the line of scrimmage.
Jake Elk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) made 13 tackles, three of which were for a loss of yards, and notched one sack. Khalil Harvey also contributed 10 tackles.
VaShon Graham led Waynesburg on defense with seven tackles while Justin Willkow intercepted one pass.
The Tomcats will return to action next Saturday when they face the Thomas More Saints on the road. The PAC game is slated to begin at noon.
