HUNTINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats earned a pair of 3-1 non-conference wins on the road Saturday over Wells College and Wittenberg University.
Thiel lost the first set against the Wells Express (25-16) but won the next three games (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) to win the match.
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led Thiel's attack against Wells with 14 kills.
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) recorded 12 kills, four blocks and a trio of aces. Also for the Tomcats,
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tallied 40 assists and 15 digs.
The Tomcats also lost the first game to Wittenberg (25-20) before winning three straight sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) to earn their second non-conference win of the day.
Hess led the Tomcats against the Tigers with 14 kills while also registering five blocks.
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) notched 13 kills while
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) contributed 12 kills. Rombach notched a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs.
In three matches at Juniata over the weekend, Hess racked up 29 kills, nine blocks and eight digs. He went on to be named to the all-tournament team.
Thiel will take on Penn State Altoona on the road Tuesday. The non-conference match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
