PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Chatham Cougars, 66-65 on Saturday.
The Tomcats erased an eight-point halftime deficit in a back-and-forth second half, which saw the lead change hands six times. A tip-in by
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) following a missed jumper gave the Tomcats the one-point lead with 15 seconds left in regulation. But two free throws by Chatham's Anthony Bomar with a little over a second remaining sealed the game for the Cougars.
Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) led the Tomcats with double-digit points in the loss. Burton notched a game-high 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Burton also pulled down six boards and dished out five assists. Brown added 13 points on 6-of-7 from the field and a game-high nine rebounds.
Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac),
Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams),
Josh Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) and
LeAndre Jackson (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) each tallied six points for the Tomcats.
Nasir Alexander paced the Cougars with 14 points.
The Tomcats (7-6, 3-5 PAC) will look to halt their three-game skid when they host Mercer County rival Grove City on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The game from Beeghly Gymnasium is slated to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
