GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team recorded its first win of the season in a 5-0 shutout victory over the D'Youville Spartans Monday under the lights at Alumni Stadium.
The Tomcats scored all of their first-half goals in a span of 18 minutes. Josh Evjene (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg) opened scoring in the 17th minute by putting away a bouncing ball in the box off of the back of Hunter Young (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington). Evjene scored again a minute later on a header from Frank Jackson (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).
Zachary Oliver (Bridgeport, Ohio/St. Clairsville) scored a minute and a half later after completing a cross in the box by Jordan Lilley (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview). Then, in the 33rd minute, Oliver ripped in a goal from the top of the box past the D'Youville goalie. Young picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.
In the 68th minute, Lilley buried a 30-yard shot into the back of the net off Young's third assist of the game to give Thiel the five-goal advantage.
Christian Conrad (Barberton, Ohio/Central Catholic) picked up his first career shutout, stopping three Spartan shots.
The Tomcats (1-0-1) will participate in the NCAC-PAC Challenge starting on Thursday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Meadville, Pa. to take on the Allegheny Gators.
