STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College men's soccer team opened the 2016 season Saturday with a 1-1 tie against the Franciscan University Barons.
After a scoreless first half, the Tomcats took a 1-0 lead on a deflection in the 48
th minute of the game.
It appeared that the Tomcats were on their way to their first win of the season until Leo Herrmann forced a tie on a penalty kick with less than 60 seconds remaining in regulation.
Jordan Lilley (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview) and
Hunter Young (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) led the Tomcats with two shots on goal apiece.
Christian Conrad (Barberton, Ohio/Central Catholic) made nine saves in goal for the Tomcats. Thomas Dosedel denied five shots for the Barons.
The Tomcats (0-0-1) will host the D'Youville Spartans Monday at Alumni Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
