DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Thiel College men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 in double-overtime Tuesday by the Defiance Yellow Jackets at Winsper-Knobel Field in Defiance, Ohio.
Zachary Oliver (Bridgeport, Ohio/St. Clairsville) staked the Tomcats to an early lead 18:58 into the contest when he scored on a pass from
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/ESIT). The Tomcats doubled their lead in the 31
st minute when Jordan Lilly scored an unassisted marker.
The Yellow Jackets cut the lead in half less than a minute after Lilly's goal when Nick Kleptz scored on a penalty kick. Thiel led 2-1 at halftime, but Ahmad Khalil scored the equalizer for the Yellow Jackets in the 57
th minute.
After neither team scored in the first overtime session, Kleptz notched the game-winner for the Pioneers on a pass from Khalil in the second overtime session.
Christian Conrad (Barberton, Ohio/Central Catholic) made six saves for the Tomcats. Clay Musgrave denied four shots for the Yellow Jackets.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa., to take on the Westminster Titans. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
