GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match against the Washington & Jefferson Presidents and the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday inside Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats weren't able to capitalize on early momentum after winning the first set in the first match against the Presidents, falling in four sets (25-22, 13-25, 20-25, 20-25).
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) notched a kill-dig double-double against the Presidents. Allen led the Tomcats with 12 kills while adding 16 digs, two blocks and a service ace.
Jessica Monroe (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) also registered double-digit kills with 10 kills.
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) and
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) each had nine kills in the loss while Friedel blocked six President attacks.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) dug out 26 attacks while
Hayley Macko (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) added 11 digs.
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) dished out 37 assists and dropped in two service aces on the Presidents.
Lexi Hilzendeger had a game-high 17 kills for the Presidents.
The Tomcats were able to rally back after dropping the first set to down the Yellow Jackets in four sets (17-25, 25-9, 25-18, 25-22).
Allen once again secured a kill-dig double-double with a career-high 17 kills along with 17 digs on defense. Friedel recorded 10 kills and three solo blocks while Monroe dropped eight kills on the Yellow Jackets.
Rossman set a new career-high assist total with 40 assists along with 10 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season.
Sweeny paced the Tomcat back row with a game-high 32 digs.
Rachel Lang had nine kills for the Yellow Jackets.
The Tomcats (6-7, 1-3 PAC) will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Grove City to take on the Grove City Wolverines in a PAC contest.
