Sweeny named to All-Tournament Team at Northwest Pa. Challenge

ERIE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team dropped the final two matches of the Northwest Pa. Challenge Saturday to the Penn St.-Behrend Lions and Saint Vincent Bearcats.
 
The Tomcats fell to the Lions in four sets (14-25, 22-25, 25-18. 22-25) in the opening match on Saturday. Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) secured her third double-double of the season in the loss. Allen had 10 kills along with a game-high 18 digs. Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) notched a team-high 12 kills with two service aces while Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) had eight kills apiece.
 
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) handed out 25 assists while Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) had 16 assists for the Tomcats.
 
Rachel Frye had 14 kills for the Lions.
 
The Bearcats upended the Tomcats in three sets (15-25, 21-25, 22-25) to wrap up the tournament. Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) led the Tomcats with six kills on 16 swings. Jordan dropped in five kills on the Bearcats while Rossman had 11 assists for the Tomcats.
 
Sarah Wozniak and Emily Vaughan each had double-digit kills for the Bearcats.
 
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament. In four matches over the weekend, she paced the Tomcat defense with 97 digs. Sweeny also added nine assists and a pair of service aces.
 
The Tomcats (5-4) will begin their conference slate on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Bethany, W.Va., to take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes and Bethany Bison in a tri-match. The Tomcats open against the Golden Tornadoes at 6 p.m.
