GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team earned the fourth seed in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) Championship Tournament Saturday and won a 17-4 win in a scrimmage against the Franciscan Barons at Alumni Stadium.
Thiel will take on first-seeded Transylvania on the road in the ORLC semifinals on Wednesday, May 4. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The ORLC Championship game will take place Saturday, May 7 with the lower remaining seed playing at the higher remaining seed. In the other semifinal game Wednesday, third-seeded Washington & Jefferson will travel to second-seeded Hanover.
Thiel opened up an early 5-0 lead over Franciscan Saturday and cruised to a 17-4 win.
Timothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Tomcats with eight points (4G, 4A) while
Alex Casile (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) recorded four points (3G, 1A). Also for the Tomcats,
Jared Saffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) notched three points (1G, 2A) while winning 18 faceoffs and recording 15 ground balls.
Charles Wistner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) earned the win after making two first-quarter saves.
Coty Bachman (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) also made six saves for the Tomcats over the last three quarters.
Jonas McCaig led the Barons with three goals while Peter Herrmann made 11 saves.
The Tomcats celebrated senior day at halftime. Seniors honored included: O'Shea, Casile,
Ian Bergbigler (Butler, Pa./Butler Area),
Sean Loney (Linthicum, Md./North County) and
Sam Raymond (East Patchogue/Bellport Senior).
