BETHANY, W.Va. –
Miranda Reesman (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) hit a pair of home runs Wednesday, but it wasn't enough for the Thiel College softball team in a pair of tough Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) losses on the road to the Bethany Bison.
After Thiel suffered a 5-2 loss in the first game of the doubleheader, Reesman staked her team to an early lead when she hit a two-run bomb over the fence in right center field.
The Tomcats maintained a 2-0 lead until the Bison picked up an unearned run in the fourth. The Bison went on to take the lead 3-2 in the fifth when Aubrey Baher drove in a pair of runs on a single through the right side of the infield.
Reesman tied up the game in the sixth when she hit her second home run of the game, this one a solo shot to center field. However, the Tomcats were unable to score in the top of the seventh and Deanna Mihalco went on to win the game for the Bison (4-3) in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off home run.
Brianna Flynn (Clark, Pa./Sharpsville) allowed three earned runs on eight hits for the Tomcats. She struck out two batters and issued one walk. Cassie Weiss earned the win in two innings of relief.
Mihalco gave the Bison a 1-0 lead with an RBI-single in the third inning of the first game. After a scoreless fourth frame, Thiel took the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth on hits by
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) and
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional). However, Bethany scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to earn the 5-2 conference victory.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) allowed four earned runs on 10 hits for the Tomcats. She struck out one batter and allowed one walk.
Weiss earned the win. She gave up two runs on four hits while collecting six strikeouts. Baher and Mihalco each hit a pair of singles and recorded two RBIs apiece in the first game.
The Tomcats will host the Westminster Titans Saturday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the PAC twin bill is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
