GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team suffered a five-set defeat (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 9-15) to the Cairn University Highlanders in a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) contest Friday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.The Tomcats came back to force a fifth set after dropping the first two sets to the Highlanders.
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded another double-double in the match, his seventh of the season, with a 36-assist, 12-dig performance.
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the Tomcat offense with a match-high 16 kills.
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) both totaled eight kills while Hess added five blocks.
Nate Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) had seven kills and 12 digs.
Duane Emanuel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) notched six kills in the loss.
Jeffrey Coffy (Castle Shannon, Pa./Keystone Oaks) paced the Tomcat defense digging out 14 Highlander attacks.
Micah Godshall had 13 kills with 11 digs and five service aces.
The Tomcats will wrap up the 2016 season tomorrow at 2 p.m. hosting on fifth-ranked Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders.
