GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team swept a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games against the Grove City Wolverines Monday at Tomcat Park. Thiel won the first game of the twin bill 5-1 before earning a 9-1 five-inning win in the second game.
In the first game, Casey Woodcock staked the Wolverines to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when she hit an RBI-single to left field. The Tomcats got that run back in the bottom of the first when
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) led off the inning with a single down the right field line and scored on
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch)'s groundout.
The game remained tied 1-1 until the Tomcats scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Amanda Auxier (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) hit an RBI-single in the sixth while Callahan drove in a pair of runs with another single down the right field line.
Shyanne Sanders (Herminie, Pa./Yough), who served as a pinch runner, also scored a run in the sixth.
Callahan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game.
Miranda Reesman (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg) went 3-for-3 with a double while
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) tallied a pair of singles.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) earned the win in Game 1, her fifth of the season. She allowed one run on four hits through seven innings of work while striking out five batters.
The Tomcats went to work early in the second game and held a 2-0 lead after one inning thanks to Reesman's 2-RBI single to left field.
The Tomcats scored four more runs in the second.
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) drove in a pair of runs on a three-bagger to left center field. Auxier also drove in a run in the second on an RBI-single through the left side of the infield.
Thiel went up 9-0 in the bottom of the third on a 2-RBI double by Fullmer to left center and an RBI-groundout by Corradi.
Fullmer went 3-for-3 in the second game with four RBIs. Fullmer tripled and doubled. Callahan and Auxier also recorded a pair of hits.
Brianna Flynn (Clark, Pa./Sharpsville) earned the win in Game 2. She allowed one run on six hits and struck out six batters.
The Tomcats (10-14, 4-4 PAC) will take on the Bethany Bison Wednesday on the road. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
