Tomcats open season against Vikings

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team opened its 2016 season Friday night with a 21-1 non-conference loss to the Augustana Vikings at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) opened scoring 2:02 into the contest when her shot from the high slot, on a pass from Paige Onomastico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley ), found the back of the net. Shelby Cosman tied up the contest roughly two minutes later on an unassisted goal, and the Vikings went on to control the rest of the contest.

Christina McCabe and Olivia Mayer led Augustana with three goals apiece.

Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) made seven saves in the first half for the Tomcats while Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made two saves in the second half. Analia Fowler earned the win for the Vikings while Maddie Russell made two second-half saves.

The Tomcats will return to action Saturday, March 12 when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to take on the Medaille Mavericks. The non-conference game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
