GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team suffered an 11-10 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) loss in overtime to the Franklin Grizzlies Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
Thiel trailed by three goals late in regulation, but
Megan Williams (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and
Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored unassisted markers less than two minutes apart to cut Franklin's lead down to 10-9 with 10:04 remaining in regulation.
Rickens went on to tie up the game with 90 seconds remaining in the second half on a pass from
Paige Onomastico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley ), allowing the Tomcats to force overtime.
Thiel lost the opening draw in overtime and Lexi Ingram scored 30 seconds into the sudden death session to seal the ORLC win for the Grizzlies.
Rickens led the Tomcats with four goals while
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored two goals. Onomastico scored a goal and tallied a pair of assists.
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) made six saves for the Tomcats in 60 minutes and 30 seconds of work.
Hannah Grow led the Grizzlies with four goals and an assist. Ingram scored three goals while Paige Clark scored two goals. Kayanna Wolter made seven saves for Franklin.
Wallace and
Courtney Fatta (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), who scored one of Thiel's goals Saturday, were honored during Senior Day prior to the game.
Thiel will take on Frostburg State University on Wednesday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
