ALTOONA, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team outlasted the Penn St.-Altoona Lions in four sets (25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-23) in a non-conference matchup Friday night.
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each notched double-doubles in the victory. Patterson recorded a career-high 23 kills with 11 digs. Rombach also set a new career-high in assists with 53 assists and led the team with 15 digs. Patterson's kill and Rombach's assist total was the most by Tomcat men's volleyball players since Dante McCoy had 25 kills and Corey Hamilton had 56 assists against Stevenson on March 3, 2012.
Nate Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) and
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) also totaled double-digits kills for the Tomcats with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Roche added nine digs and Hess blocked three Lion attacks.
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) had nine kills and nine digs while
Duane Emanuel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) killed seven attacks and led the Tomcats with four blocks.
Bradley Colditz had 17 kills for the Lions.
The Tomcats will resume Continental Volleyball Conference play when they host the Cairn Highlanders on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
