GREENVILLE, Pa. – In a game that went back-and-forth for 60 minutes, the Thiel College women's lacrosse team fell a bit short in a 13-12 non-conference loss Tuesday against the Hiram Terriers at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
Tied 6-6 at halftime, the Terriers went on to hold a three-goal lead on two occasions in the second half. However, Tomcat freshman
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded a natural hat trick over a nine-minute stretch late in the second half, including the equalizer (12-12) with 3:59 remaining in regulation.
Unfortunately for the Tomcats, Sierah Ray scored the game-winning goal for the Terriers with 1:39 remaining in the contest. Ray, Autumn Osgood and Kayla Jenkins led the Terriers with three goals apiece. Osgood also added a pair of assists.
Scherer led the Tomcats with four goals and an assist while
Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored four goals.
Melody Zuniga (Fort Meade, Md./Meade) scored two goals for the Tomcats and caused three turnovers.
Rachel Metcalf made four saves for the Terriers while
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) denied 10 shots for the Tomcats.
Thiel will host Franklin Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
