CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thiel College softball team concluded play in the Spring Games Friday with a pair of losses to the Millsaps Majors (5-1) and the Sage Gators (4-1). Thiel went 4-6 during its week of contests in the Spring Games.
Millsaps took an early 1-0 lead over Thiel in the first inning. The Tomcats battled back to tie the score in the second stanza on
Ashley Ames (Mount Lebanon, Pa./Upper Saint Clair)' game-tying RBI.
After a scoreless third inning, the Majors scored four runs en route to the non-conference win. Cassidy DeNoon limited the Tomcats to one run, which was not earned, on five hits. She struck out six batters and allowed one walk.
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) suffered the loss. She allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits. She walked three and struck out three.
Kelley led the Tomcats at the plate with two hits. Missy Romero went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Majors.
In Thiel's final contest in the Spring Games, Sage went up 2-0 in the first inning when Jessica Adams singled down the left field line.
Thiel chipped away at the lead with a run in the fourth inning when
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) doubled down the left field line, driving in
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional). Unfortunately, it was Thiel's only run of the game. The Tomcats left 10 players on base in the contest.
Allison Ford allowed 11 hits in the game, but she gave up just one earned run. Lindsay Brace pitched one inning to earn her first save of the season.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) took the loss. She threw a complete game allowing two earned runs on nine hits. Williams struck out two batters without issuing a walk.
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) led the Tomcats with three hits.
The Tomcats (4-6) are scheduled to take on the Case Western Reserve Spartans on the road on Saturday, March 19. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
