LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season in a three set sweep (26-24, 25-22, 25-20) over Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) foe Cairn University Friday night.
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) both recorded seven kills in the win. Paunovich notched his seven kills on 12 attacks. Paunovich also added six digs and a service ace. Patterson had five digs with two block assists.
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) had six kills and two block assists for the Tomcats.
Duane Emanuel (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Nate Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) both collected season-best totals in blocks. Emanuel blocked eight Highlander attacks (two solo, six assisted) while Roche tallied six blocks (one solo, five assists). Roche also added 10 digs.
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) totaled 23 assists, five kills, four digs and a service ace.
Jeffrey Coffy (Castle Shannon, Pa./Keystone Oaks) dug out a team-high 11 Highlander attacks.
Andy Willits led the Highlanders on offense with eight kills.
The Tomcats will travel to Newark, N.J. on Saturday to take on the No. 4-ranked Rutgers-Newark. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. from the Golden Dome.
