GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team took down the Allegheny Gators, 71-59 in a battle of unbeatens in the 2016 home opener on Monday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) paced the Tomcats with 18 points each. Cetoute also added 11 rebounds along with a game-best five blocks to collect his second double-double of the season. Cetoute went 8-of-11 from the field, including going 1-of-1 from behind the three-point line and from the charity stripe.
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) and
Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) tallied eight points apiece. Campbell pulled down 11 rebounds while Brown grabbed eight boards.
Terrance Holloway (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) and
Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) were key contributors off the bench for the Tomcats. Ozkaynak led the Tomcats with seven assists and Holloway chipped in with seven points.
Jordan Rawls scored 12 points to lead the Gators.
The Tomcats controlled the glass, getting a 47-32 edge over the Gators in rebounding. The Tomcats also scored 36 points in the paint and 20 points off of turnovers.
The Tomcats (4-0) will open their conference schedule after the Thanksgiving holiday. The Tomcats will head to New Wilmington on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to take on the Westminster Titans. The action is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. from the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
