PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match to the Chatham Cougars and the Saint Vincent Bearcats on Saturday.
The Tomcats stumbled in the first match of the day to the Chatham Cougars, suffering a four-set (25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 27-29) defeat.
Seniors
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) and
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) paced the Tomcats in the loss. Shelley dished out 22 assists and dug out 15 Cougar attacks to earn a double-double. Shelley also added five kills and two service aces. Boyer led the Tomcats with 10 kills and two blocks.
Jessica Monroe (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) recorded seven kills while
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) had a team-high 25 digs along with six kills.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area),
Hayley Macko (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) and
Morgan Reisz (Canonsburg, Pa./Bishop Canevin) each tallied double-digit digs for the Tomcats.
Justyne Lasher had 22 kills and 21 digs for the Cougars.
The Tomcats rallied back from the earlier loss to earn a five-set (25-19, 14-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-6) win over the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
The senior tandem of Boyer and Shelley led the Tomcats in the win. Boyer notched 15 kills in the victory to set a new career-high while Shelley picked up her eighth double-double of the season. Shelley registered a game-high 32 assists with 11 digs.
Allen was a kill away from a double-double when she totaled nine kills with a team-high 19 digs.
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) had eights kills and three solo blocks while Macko dug out 15 Bearcat attacks in the win.
Marissa O'Dell had 13 kills, 15 digs and 17 assists for the Bearcats.
The Tomcats (8-12, 2-7 PAC) will be back in action Tuesday when they host the Grove City Wolverines in a conference clash. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
