PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned a five-set (25-17, 19-25, 21-25, 32-30, 15-8) victory over the La Roche Redhawks in a non-conference contest Thursday evening.
After falling behind two sets to one to the Redhawks, the Tomcats won a marathon fourth set 32-30 then cruised to a 15-8 fifth set victory to seal the match.
Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the Tomcats with career-highs in kills and blocks in the win. Jordan notched 12 kills and seven blocks.
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) each collected a double-double for the Tomcats. Allen and Shelley each dug out 20 Redhawk attacks while Allen tallied 10 kills. Shelley dished out 30 assists and dropped in two service aces.
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) picked up nine kills and seven digs in the match.
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) secured seven kills and six blocks in the win.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) paced the Tomcat back row with 28 digs while adding nine assists.
Laura Nath had a game-high 28 kills for the Redhawks.
The Tomcats (7-11) will resume conference action on Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh to battle the Chatham Cougars and the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a tri-match. The matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
