Thiel comeback cut short by Saint Vincent on Senior Night

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team suffered a five-set (24-26, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 14-16) defeat to the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Thursday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Before the match, the Tomcats honored Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) and Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) for Senior Night.
 
After trailing two sets to none to the Bearcats, the Tomcats rallied to tie up the match and force a fifth set. The Tomcats kept it close but fell 16-14 in the final frame.
 
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) led the Tomcats with a career-high 23 kills on a match-high 60 attacks. Allen also had 14 digs to notch her 12th double-double of the season. Allen added two service aces and two blocks for the Tomcats.
 
Boyer and Jessica Monroe (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) also tallied double-digit kills for the Tomcats in the loss. Boyer recorded 13 kills, two service aces and two blocks while Monroe had ten kills and four blocks.
 
Shelley secured her 11th double-double of the season with a 48 assist, 22 dig performance in five sets.
 
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) and Hayley Macko (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) played well in the back row for the Tomcats. Sweeny dug out 22 Bearcat attacks to tie the match-high with Shelley while Macko added 13 digs.
 
Marissa O'Dell had 12 kills and 25 assists for the Bearcats.
 
The Tomcats will wrap up the 2016 season Saturday when they travel to Beaver Falls to take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in a PAC contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
