WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team dropped two matches in a tri-match to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents and the Oberlin Yeowomen Saturday.
The Tomcats fell in a five-set contest to the Presidents, 20-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-17.
The Tomcats forced a fifth set after falling behind two sets to none to the Presidents. The Tomcats was up 14-10 in the final set but was unable to close out the match as the Presidents won the fifth set 17-15.
The senior duo of
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) and
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) notched double-doubles in the loss. Boyer tallied a team-high 14 kills along with 10 digs while Shelley dished out 41 assists while digging out 17 President attacks. Shelley also added six kills and four service aces.
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) and
Jessica Monroe (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) recorded 11 and 10 kills apiece while both blocked three President attacks.
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) was a kill away from a double-double, picking up nine kills, 27 digs and two service aces.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) secured a team-high 35 digs while dropping in three service aces on the Presidents.
The Yeowomen downed the Tomcats in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-12.
Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) led the Tomcat offense with six kills apiece.
Sweeny and
Macey Garland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) had double-digit digs for the Tomcats. Sweeny dug out 16 Yeowomen attacks while Garland collected 10 digs.
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and
Brenna Parsley (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Madison Christian) split time at setter. Rossman and Parsley handed out 12 and 11 assists respectively.
The Tomcats will travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. to battle the Thomas More Saints in a conference contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
