GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball suffered a five-set (19-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-21, 13-15) defeat to the Grove City Wolverines in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Tuesday night.
The Tomcats rallied back to force a decisive fifth set after falling behind two sets to none. The Tomcats were unable to maintain the momentum in the fifth set, falling 15-13.
Three Tomcats tallied double-digit kills in the match, led by
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia). Friedel set a new career-high with 15 kills on 35 swings for a hitting percentage of .343. Friedel also blocked six Wolverines attacks.
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) also notched double-digit kills in the loss. Allen recorded 13 kills while Boyer collected 11 kills. Allen added 20 digs to pick up her 10
th kill-dig double-double of the season.
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) split time at setter for the Tomcats. Rossman dished out 25 assists and added four kills and three service aces. Shelley handed out 19 assist. Both Rossman and Shelley were a dig away from a double-double, securing nine digs a piece.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) and
Hayley Macko (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) played well in the Tomcat back row. Sweeny had a team-high 24 digs while Macko dug out 14 Wolverine attacks.
Jamie Robatisin and Laura Buchanan both had a match-high 18 kills for the Wolverines.
The Tomcats will return to action Thursday when they host the Westminster Titans in a conference clash. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
