WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team competed in the first day of the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College, Friday.
The Tomcats went 1-2 on the day, defeating RIT 34-15 but falling to Wesleyan College and No. 14 ranked College of New Jersey.
Lance Waters (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll),
Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Butler) and
Chris Nuss (West Homestead, Pa/Central Catholic) each picked up two victories on the day. Waters earned a win 3-1 in the first sudden victory overtime period against Frank Crippen of Wesleyan then pinned Isaiah Ocasio of RIT in 2:24 in his second match of the day.
Sutton dropped his first match against Carter Armendarez of Wesleyan before rifling off two consecutive decisions over James Beirne of TCNJ and Austin Prince of RIT.
Nuss split two decisions on the day, recording a 6-3 win over Roy Forys of Wesleyan before falling to Joe Paton of TCNJ 7-2. Nuss rebounded in his final match on Friday pinning Joe Cutugno of RIT in 2:58.
Robert Ritschard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) and
Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) also notched decisions over Shane Ross and Dominic Pirraglia of Wesleyan.
Vince Vahaly (Bentleyville, Pa./Bentworth) picked up a 14-4 major decision at 125 pounds over George Bardanis of RIT.
Dominic Farabaugh (Loretto, Pa./Penn Cambria) earned a 10-3 decision victory over John Donahue at 174 while
Zeb Throne (Metamora, MI/Oxford) received a forfeit at 197 against RIT.
The Tomcats will resume competition on Saturday at the Budd Whitehill Duals. The Tomcats will open Saturday against host Lycoming Warriors at 9 a.m.
