OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team traveled to Stevenson University to participate in a non-conference tri-match against Medaille College and Elmira College Saturday.
 
The Tomcats suffered a 3-0 (11-25, 19-25, 15-25) defeat to the Medaille Mavericks in the opening match before battling the Elmira Hawks in a five-set loss (25-22, 17-25, 25-19, 15-25, 3-15).
 
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) led the Tomcat attack in the tri-match. Patterson had 21 kills while Paunovich had 17 kills and added two service aces. Nate Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) also recorded 17 kills in tri-match, 14 of which were against Elmira.
 
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had 58 assists in the tri-match for the Tomcats. Jeffrey Coffy (Castle Shannon, Pa./Keystone Oaks) paced the Tomcat defense recording double-digit digs in both matches for a total of 26 digs.
 
Thiel will host Marymount University in Continental Volleyball Conference action Friday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
