EDINBORO, Pa. – The Thiel College men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2015 seasons Saturday at the Doug Watts Distance Gala, held at Edinboro University.
Thiel's men's and women's teams both finished seventh overall. The men's team finished with 211 points while the women's team finished with 182 points.
John Clark (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) paced Thiel's men's team in the 8K with a 54
th-place finish in 30:24.1 while
Ryan Thomas (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) placed 60
th in 31:39.3.
Eric Casey (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Mechanicsburg) (32:18.9) and
Justin Walter (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) (32:26.4) finished 62
nd and 63
rd, respectively, while Drew Bruecki placed 65
th (32:45.9).
Christian McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) (33:11.7) and
Jaime Montalvo (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) (33:47.4) finished 69
th and 71
st, respectively.
Meri Steinmetz (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater- Raritan) led Thiel's women's team in the 5K with a 43
rd-place finish in 21:57.4.
Summer Wark (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) (21:59.9) and
Megan Kidder (Worthington, Pa./Kittanning) (22:16.1) were close behind Steinmetz finishing 45
th and 49
th, respectively.
Candice Arnold (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) (22:41.2) and
Alexis Mowris (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) (22:43.2) placed 53
rd and 54
th, respectively.
Josephina Whiteman (Hockessin, Del./Conrad Schools of Science) finished 66
th overall in 24:54.5 while
Beverley Kozuch (Templeton, Pa./West Shamokin) finished 69
th in 25:16.7.
Nicole Perra (Sunderland, Vt./Long Trail) placed 78
th in a little over 36 minutes.
Thiel's men's and women's cross country teams will return to the course Saturday, Sept. 12 when they participate in the Bethany Invitational in Bethany, W.Va.
