WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team suffered a five set defeat (17-25, 26-24, 11-25, 25-22, 8-15) to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest, Wednesday night.
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) and
Bailey Holmes (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Grand Valley) each recorded double-digit kills for the Tomcats. Boyer had a team high 14 kills while Holmes notched 11 kills. Both players registered a block assist.
Freshman setter
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) secured her first collegiate double-double with 39 assists and 14 digs. Rossman also had three kills and a block assist. Fellow freshman
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) had seven kills and four total blocks.
Defensively, the Tomcats were led by
Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and
Jessa Covine (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Maplewood). Baer dug out 22 Yellow Jacket attacks and added a service ace. Covine logged 16 digs in the loss.
Three Yellow Jackets had double-digit kills, led by Kourtney Skinner, who had a game-high 15 kills.
The Tomcats will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 19, taking on the Marymount Saints and the Allegheny Gators in a tri-match in Meadville, Pa. The first match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., against Marymount and will face Allegheny following the first match.
