GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel),
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) and
Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) combined for 10 goals Wednesday to lead the Thiel Tomcats to a high-scoring 18-12 victory over the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Tomcats remained undefeated (6-0) in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) with the win.
Thiel earned the win Wednesday at the end of the first half. With the game tied up 8-8, the Tomcats went on to outscore the Presidents 5-1 over the final 9:51 of the first half to take a 13-9 lead at the break. Mahdi scored two of her five goals in the game over the stretch, including what would count as the eventual game-winner with five second left in the first half.
In all, Mahdi tallied a game-high eight points (5G, 3A) while Martin notched six points (2G, 4A) and Harrigan added four points (3G, 1A). Defenseman
Jenna Simanovsky (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) also tallied five points (4G, 1A).
Caroline Kallos paced the Presidents with seven points (6G, 1) while Diana Harvey tallied five points (3G, 2A).
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) earned the win for the Tomcats. She made four saves in the first half.
Amy Boxer (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) also made four saves for Thiel in the second half. Kelsey Roetenberg denied 12 shots for the Presidents.
Thiel (8-5, 6-0 ORLC) will travel to Latrobe, Pa. Saturday to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats at 4 p.m. The Tomcats and Bearcats are both undefeated in ORLC play.
