LATROBE, Pa. –
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) scored seven goals and recorded nine points Saturday, but it wasn't enough for the Thiel Tomcats, who suffered a tough 16-15 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) loss on the road to the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
The Tomcats held an 8-6 lead over the Bearcats at halftime thanks to a streak of five straight goals by five different Tomcats.
Trailing late in the second half, the Tomcats surged ahead 15-14 on goals by
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) (3:16) and Harrigan (2:40). However, the Bearcats rattled off a pair of unanswered goals with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to clinch the conference win.
Mahdi tallied seven points (4G, 3A) for the Tomcats while
Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) recorded four points (1G, 3A). Molly Snyder (2G, 6A) and Sarah Wallerstedt (5G, 2A) led the Bearcats with eight and seven points, respectively.
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) made 13 saves for the Tomcats. Michelle Mitchell made 10 saves for the Bearcats.
The Tomcats (8-6, 6-1) will travel to Waynesburg, Pa. Wednesday to take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in an ORLC contest, which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
