ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior
Jenna Simanovsky (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) scored a career single-game best six goals Friday to lead the Thiel Tomcats to an 11-4 victory over the Kalamazoo Hornets at Thorson-Lucken Field on the campus of Augustana College.
Simanovsky also added an assist in the win for a total of seven points, which was also her career single-game best.
Simanovsky scored the first two goals of the game, one of which was assisted by
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel).
Paige Onomastico (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley ) and
Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) followed with unassisted markers to give the Tomcats an early 4-0 lead.
The Hornets came back in the first half and managed to trail by just two goals at the break, 5-3. However, the Tomcats went on to outscore the Hornets 6-1 in the second half to cruise to the non-conference win.
Mahdi (1G, 1A) and
Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) (2A) also tallied multi-point games for the Tomcats.
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) made three saves and earned the win in 30 minutes of work.
Amy Boxer (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) also made six saves for the Tomcats in the second half.
Anika Sproull paced the Hornets with three goals.
The Tomcats (7-5, 5-0 ORLC) will host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Wednesday. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
