GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats suffered a pair of Presidents' Athletics Conference losses at Tomcat Park Thursday to the Thomas More Saints. Thiel lost the first game of the doubleheader 8-2 and the second game 14-5.
Madison Cheek (Milan, Ohio/Milan-Edison) accounted for both of Thiel's runs in the first game when she launched a two-run homer over the left field fence in the sixth inning. It was her second round-tripper of the season.
Cheek led the Tomcats in the first game with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also had a pair of hits for the Tomcats.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) suffered the loss. She allowed five earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
In Game 2, Cheek's RBI-single to center field cut Thomas More's lead down to 2-1 in the first inning. The Tomcats also scored a run in the second inning on a wild pitch.
In the fifth frame,
Cara Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) cleared the bases with a three-bagger into the right field gap. Baker went 3-for-3 in the second game with three RBIs.
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and Cheek also tallied a pair of hits apiece for the Tomcats.
Thiel (10-8, 3-3 PAC) is scheduled to travel to Erie, Pa. on Tuesday to take on Penn State-Behrend. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 3:30 p.m.
