BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team came back in the top of the ninth to defeat the Geneva Golden Tornadoes 7-6 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup Friday afternoon.
The Tomcats scored five runs in the top of the ninth after trailing the Golden Tornadoes 6-2. The first runs of the ninth scored off of a
Josh Doody (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City) single into center field that brought home
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and
Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic).
Ryan Brumbaugh (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) then brought Doody and
Austin Schwanke (Warren, Pa./Warren) home on a single past the first baseman.
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) then hit a RBI single into left field that scored
Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin).
Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) earned his third win of the season for the Tomcats coming in relief of the starter
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire). Forrester pitched three perfect innings, striking out three Golden Tornadoes. Elko struck out nine in six innings of work.
Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fourth while
Austin Schwanke (Warren, Pa./Warren) went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Tomcats (18-7, 8-5 PAC) will be back in action Saturday, April 11 for a doubleheader against the Golden Tornadoes. The first game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
