CLERMONT, Fla. –
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) hit a walkoff single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday night to lift the Thiel College Tomcats to a 7-6 victory over the New York University Violets. The win was the Tomcats' second of the day after they opened play in the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida with a 5-1 victory over Becker College.
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) gave the Tomcats an early 2-0 lead against the Violets when she launched a 2-RBI double into left center field in the first inning. The Violets tied the game in the second inning and went ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Thiel responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to reclaim the lead, 6-4.
Cara Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) had the key hit in the inning, a bases-clearing triple to right field. NYU eked out a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to force another tie, but
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) came through with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh, a 2-out single to center field.
Brianna Flynn (Clark, Pa./Sharpsville) pitched a complete game against NYU, earning her first win of the season in the process. She allowed six runs over seven innings, only two of which were earned, on 10 hits. Flynn struck out three batters and issued three walks.
Carney went 3-for-4 against the Violets with two RBIs. Baker,
Ashley Guillory (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) and
Amanda Auxier (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) also had a pair of hits for the Tomcats against the Violets.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) threw a complete game 1-hitter in the first game Sunday, leading the Tomcats to a 5-1 victory over the Becker Hawks. Her lone mistake on the day was a solo home run that she gave up to Jessica Brochu in the fourth inning. Callahan struck out eight Becker batters.

Thiel (2-0) will take on Saint Mary's College and Finlandia University Monday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
