FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team earned their first win of the 2015 season Sunday in their spring opener against Olivet College 6-4 at the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) went 2-5 with a home run that skied over the left-center field fence in the 8
th inning.
Brian Genco (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) went
3-5 to go along with six solid innings of pitching. Elko struck out five and only gave up four unearned runs.
Pat Duncan (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) came in the 7
th inning to earn the nine-out save.
Michael O'Brien took the loss for Olivet, giving up five runs in just over two innings. Zach Kitzmiller had three hits and two RBIs.
The Tomcats (1-0) will be back in action Monday, March 9 at noon to take on Baruch College.
