Thiel improves to 10-1 after doubleheader sweep of D’Youville

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball swept the D'Youville College Spartans by the scores of 5-2 and 10-4 in a non-conference doubleheader on a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon at Tomcat Park.

Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) had a great day for the Tomcats, collecting six hits in the doubleheader. In the second game, Mitchell was a double shy from hitting for the cycle. He went 4-for-4 with his second home run of the season, a triple and five RBIs. In the first game, he had two hits and scored three runs with a double and a stolen base. Altogether, Mitchell scored five runs in both games.

Also in the second game, Brian Genco (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Cody Shaw (Fayetteville, Ohio/Fayetteville-Perry) had a triple while Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) recorded a double. The Tomcats scored at least a run in every inning but the third inning.

In the first game, the Tomcat had three hitters that had multi-hit games. Mitchell, Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin), and Ryan Brumbaugh (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) each had two hits respectively.

Parker Meyers (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) received his third win of the season in the first game. Meyers only allowed one hit and struck out four batters. Pat Duncan (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) earned his second save of the season, working an inning with a strikeout.

Jaden Nozicka (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) recorded the win in the second game, giving up three runs on five hits.

The Tomcats (10-1) will begin conference play on Monday, March 23 at 4 p.m. as they take on the Washington and Jefferson Presidents. That game is a make-up from March 1.
