Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Thiel Tomcats improved to 3-0 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) play Friday with a 9-8 road victory over the Transylvania Pioneers.
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) led the Tomcats with five goals, including the game-winner with 7:36 remaining in regulation. Mahdi also came up with four ground balls, controlled four draws and caused one turnover.
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) scored two goals for the Tomcats.
Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and
Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD) also scored one goal apiece. Rickens led Thiel with six ground balls.
Thiel held a 6-4 lead at the half but saw Transylvania tie up the score 8-8 after scoring three straight markers with 12:12 remaining in regulation. Mahdi went on to score the unassisted game-winner for the Tomcats with 7:36 remaining.
Rachel Harrison led the Pioneers with five goals while scooping up 10 ground balls.
Amy Boxer (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) earned the win for the Tomcats. Boxer faced seven shots in 30 minutes of work in the second half.
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) also faced six shots for the Tomcats in the first half. Lydia Shaughnessy suffered the loss. She faced 16 shots and made seven saves.
The Tomcats (4-3, 3-0 ORLC) will try to extend their conference winning streak to four games Saturday when they take on the Hanover Panthers at 4 p.m.
