GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated the visiting Hiram Terriers 9-2 in the 2015 home opener at Tomcat Park Thursday afternoon.
Thiel got the bats going late after trailing 2-0 after five and half innings, scoring all nine of their runs in the final three innings of the game.
Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) had the big hit of the game, depositing a two-run home run over the left field fence in the 8
th inning. That homer was Koller's first career home run.
Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin),
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) and
Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) each had multi-hit games with Trinch and Smith recording doubles.
Brian Snyder (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) had a two RBI single in the 6
th inning, scoring
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and
Josh Doody (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City).
Elko earned his third win of the season pitching six solid innings for the Tomcats, only allowing two runs and five hits.
Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) came out of the pen to earn the three-inning save, striking out two and allowing one hit.
The Tomcats (8-1) will be back in action Saturday, March 21 for a doubleheader against D'Youville College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
