FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated the Keystone College Giants 9-6 on Friday as part of the 2015 Gene Cusic Classic, held in Fort Myers, Fla.
Brian Genco (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) had a big day for the Tomcats going 2-for4 at the plate. Genco hit a triple in the second inning that scored
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) and on the same play scored from third after an errant throw by the center fielder went into the Tomcat dugout. Then in the eighth inning, Genco crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence that also scored
Josh Doody (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City). In total, Genco had four RBIs in the game and scored two runs.
Trent Smith (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) had a multi-hit game for the Tomcats.
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) each scored twice while, Doody,
Cody Trinch (Franklin, Pa./Franklin),
Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and
Ryan Brumbaugh (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) each registered an RBI in the game.
Parker Meyers (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) pitched six strong innings, striking out two and only giving up two runs.
For the Giants, Jesse Arnold gave up five earned runs in over three innings of work.
The Tomcats (6-1) will return to action on Saturday, March 14 at 10 p.m. when wrap up the 2015 Gene Cusic Classic against the Gettysburg College Bullets.
