Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thiel Tomcats scattered 13 hits en route to a 5-inning 17-1 victory over the Franciscan Barons Thursday during play in the Spring Games at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) and
Jena Bukovac (White, Pa./Connellsville Area) led the Tomcats at the plate against the Barons with three hits apiece. Massengill also recorded two RBIs and two runs scored while Bokovac scored three runs. Also for the Tomcats,
Cara Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) earned the win, her second of the season. Williams allowed one run on two hits with five strikeouts.
Earlier in the day, the Tomcats suffered a 5-2 loss to the Cornell Rams. After falling behind 5-0, Thiel scored a pair of runs on solo homers by Massengill and
Amanda Auxier (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Massengill and Auxier each had two hits apiece in the loss.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) absorbed the loss, her first of the season. She allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out six and issuing two walks.
The Tomcats (5-3) will conclude play in the Spring Games Friday when they take on the WPI Engineers (9 a.m.) and Lakeland Muskies (11 a.m.) at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
