ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team split their first two games of the Golden Flyer Invitational held at Nazareth College on Friday.
The Tomcats got off to a great start winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) against the Wells College Express. Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) recorded a double-double, recording 23 assists and 18 digs. John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) had 10 kills and three service aces. Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) and Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) each notched six kills respectively while Hess had two block solos and two block assists.
J.J. Podczasy had a game-high 11 kills for the Express.
The Tomcats were unable to sustain the momentum against the Hawks of Elmira, dropping a 3-0 (14-25, 20-25, 17-25) decision. John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) each had six kills for the Tomcats and Turner also recorded a block solo and assisted on five blocks. Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) handed out 15 assists.
The Tomcats (4-4) will be back in action Saturday, February 7 for the second day of the Golden Flyer Invitational at Nazareth College. The Tomcats will face UC-Santa Cruz at 11 a.m. and Hilbert at 3 p.m.
