LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set decisions in a tri-match to the Saint Vincent Bearcats and the Oberlin Yeowomen.
The Tomcats were victims of late rallies against the Bearcats (19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25). Five Tomcats recorded six or more kills in the match led by
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian). Boyer collected a team-high nine kills.
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) had seven kills along with three block assists.
Bailey Holmes (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Grand Valley),
Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
Hannah Budzowski (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) each had six kills respectively.
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) earned a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs.
Along with Shelley, four other Tomcats had double-digit digs defensively.
Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) paced the Tomcat defense against the Bearcats with 27 digs.
Jessica Welteroth, Emily Vaughan and Rachel Hast each led the Bearcats with 10 kills.
The Tomcats fell in a hard-fought contest in the second match of the tri-match against the Yeowomen of Oberlin in four sets (22-25, 30-28, 15-25, 23-25). Boyer and
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) each notched double-digit kills for the Tomcats. Boyer knocked down 13 attacks while Allen had 10 kills to go along with 18 digs, earning a double-double. Shelley once again had a double-double, registering 40 assists and 12 digs with three service aces.
Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) had a team-high 23 digs for the Tomcats.
Claudia Scott led the Yeowomen with 17 kills.
The Tomcats will travel to Washington, Pa. to take on the Washington and Jefferson Presidents in a conference clash on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
