GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team split the two games played on Saturday at the home Thiel College Invitational.
After dropping the first set, the Tomcats rallied back to win three in a row (27-29, 25-19, 25-18. 25-20) to take their first match of the day against the Fontbonne University Griffins.
John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and
Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) both had 12 kills in the match.
Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and
Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) each knocked down two aces and assisted on six blocks each. Whitelock secured nine kills and a block solo while Hess had seven kills.
On the defensive side,
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) had 24 digs and
Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) had 10 digs.
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) passed out 36 assists.
Peter Hibbeler led the Griffins with 12 kills.
The Tomcats couldn't sustain the momentum from the second game and fell to the Mount St. Joseph Lions 3-0 (22-25, 21-25, 21-25). Lasher had a team-high 15-kill performance, along with an ace. Turner had seven kills and
Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) had five kills. Tindall had 19 assists while Vitale had 12 digs.
For the Lions, Alex Vohland had 17 kills.
The Tomcats (3-2) will be back in action tomorrow to wrap up the Thiel College Invitational against the Lakeland College Muskies. Thiel is scheduled to play at noon.
