Tomcats split matches during final day of Juniata Invitational

Hess named to All-Tournament Team

HUNTINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team finished 1-1 during the final day of play at the Juniata College Invitational on Saturday.

The Tomcats swept the Hilbert Hawks 3-0 during their first match Saturday. John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) led the Tomcats with eight kills on 19 attempts. Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) recorded seven kills and six blocks while Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) tallied six blocks and six kills. Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) combined to give out 30 assists for the Tomcats.

Korey Schwab had 10 kills for Hilbert.

The Tomcats fell to the Elmira Eagles during their final match of the invitational. Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) recorded 10 kills on 15 attempts. Whitelock and Turner each had nine kills. Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) had six blocks while Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) handed out 31 assists and had two service aces.

Mike Ellison and Mark Kawecki had 21 and 10 kills for Elmira, respectively. Carlos Faccio handed out 35 assists and notched six service aces.

Regan Hess (Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central) was named to the All-Tournament team with 12 kills, 16 blocks, and three aces for the tournament.

The Tomcats (2-1) will be back in action Saturday, January 31 when they host the Thiel College Invitational. Nazereth, Fontbonne, Lakeland, Penn State Altoona, Mt. St. Joseph and Elmira will all take part in the invitational.
