GREENVILLE, Pa. – Junior Luke Kochka (Monroeville, Pa. /Gateway) waited 39 minutes and 58.4 seconds to knock down his only three-pointer of the game Monday, but it was the biggest basket of the game.
Kochka drained a NBA-range three-pointer just left of the top of the key with only 1.6 seconds left in the game on a pass from Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) to lift the Thiel Tomcats to a 74-73 non-conference victory over the visiting Carlow Celtics Monday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Kochka recorded 10 points in the game. He was one of four Tomcats to score more than 10 points. Campbell led the Tomcats with 14 points. Khari
Bess scored 12 points and handed out nine assists to go along with five steals. Freshman forward Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) scored 11 points, snagged eight rebounds and blocked five shots.
Zack Taylor scored 20 points for the Celtics.
The Tomcats shot 55.1 percent from the field, making 27 of 49 shots. Thiel outscored Carlow in the paint (42-18) and dominated in bench points (34-6).
The Tomcats (9-7, 5-2 PAC) will host the defending conference champion Saint Vincent Bearcats Wednesday. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
